SPIRIT

Step 4 of the 12-Step Christ Intentional Living Plan

The part of God Christ asked God to send to be with us.

Once you believe that Jesus is The Savior—ask God to forgive your wrongdoings and to wash you in Christ’s Blood, and are baptized—The Holy Spirit of God takes residence in you and becomes your advocate. He also becomes your ultimate Helper, transforming you into an entirely new person with a different outlook, mindset and goals.

But who is The Holy Spirit? And how can you have Him as your advocate when you don’t know Him?

The Holy Spirit of God is Christ’s promise to us – the part of God He (Christ) asked God to send to be with us.

“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” — Jesus Christ, Savior of the World, John 14:15-17

Names of The Holy Spirit

  • Commonly known as The Holy Spirit, The Counsellor, The Helper

  • Reverential name: The Holy Spirit of God

  • Legal name: that’s up to debate

  • Personal name: THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH

THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH

Jesus, Himself, tells us The Holy Spirit’s personal name in John 14:15-17: “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—The Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

Intricate Relationship

Though Jesus died to give us daily and eternal peace of mind, it was God who sent Jesus to die for us. Jesus, in turn, asked God to send The Holy Spirit to be our advocate, be with us and help us handle life. And The Holy Spirit’s labor of love is to fashion us into God-friendly and Christ-friendly women.

The Advocate

According to Cambridge Dictionary, an advocate is a lawyer who speaks for or defends someone in a court of law. An advocate can also be someone who supports, or represents a person or group of people who may need extra help or protection. That’s what The Holy Spirit of God is to us: someone who speaks for, defends and supports us. Therefore, you are missing out on some serious advice if He is not your BFF yet.
